Graduated “History” at the University of Veliko Tarnovo. Completed both her MA and Ph.D.
studies at the Department of Medieval Studies, CEU, Budapest. Assoc. Professor in
Medieval Archaeology of Bulgaria and the Balkans. Humboldt Fellow at the University of
Cologne and Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna. Director of excavations in Preslav, near
Varna and Sv. Ivan island, Sozopol. Research topics: monastic archaeology; landscape
archaeology; archaeology of the West Black Sea coast 11 th to 15 th c.; medieval graffiti.
