Did his M.A. in Byzantine Studies and Classical Archaeology at the University of Vienna and his PhD in Maritime Archaeology at Oxford University. Before joining the DAI Istanbul as Curator for Late Antique and Byzantine Archaeology he held a European Union-Marie Curie Fellowship and worked at the RGZM Mainz. His interests lie in the fields of maritime, coastal and environmental archaeology with a particular focus on harbour and trade networks in the Eastern Mediterranean.
